Picture this: it’s 10:45 pm, and your assignment is due the next day. You’ve been staring at the prompt for an hour, unsure what to do. So, you open ChatGPT, type in your question, and within seconds, an answer appears.

For many students, this has become a daily reality.

In recent years, artificial intelligence has become increasingly present in education. Tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other AI-powered platforms are now easily accessible to students, whether they are inside or outside the classroom. According to UNESCO, the use of digital technologies in education is growing rapidly, with AI tools playing a major role in how students learn.

These platforms are now an integral aspect of how many students approach their work.. A question that once meant flipping through ten different textbooks or searching multiple websites can now be answered in seconds. AI tools are used to break down difficult concepts, suggest ideas for assignments, and summarise large amounts of information into something much more manageable. According to the OECS, these tools are becoming increasingly incorporated into students’ study routines, shaping not only how they learn and complete their work, but also how they access and process information.
However, the growing use of AI is also raising many concerns among teachers and educators. One key issue is academic integrity, as AI tools can generate full responses to assignments, which means that something that could have started as a quick check for accuracy could turn into a fully written AI essay. Furthermore, according to UNESCO, overreliance on AI may affect students’ ability to think critically and work independently, which are essential lifelong skills.

In response to these issues, schools are beginning to adapt to the use of AI rather than banning it entirely. According to the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training, there has been an increasing emphasis on guiding students to use these digital tools responsibly, and some educators are redesigning assignments so that they focus more on analysis and personal interpretation. This reduces overdependence on AI-generated content.

In conclusion, as artificial intelligence continues to develop, its role in education is expected to grow. While it offers countless benefits in terms of efficiency and accessibility, its long-term impact can greatly affect how students see the world. For now, it remains both a powerful learning tool and a challenge for schools.
